Model Highlights

For 2010, the Lexus RX series comes in two versions: the RX 350 and the RX 450h. Both can be had in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. Both versions seat five comfortably, with this year's redesign resulting in greater legroom and shoulder room for both front and rear passengers. The RX 350's 3.5L V6 powerplant has been updated for 2010, resulting in 275 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque--an increase of 5 horses and 6 pound-feet over last year's configuration. A new 6-speed automatic is now standard, replacing last year's 5-speed unit, and helping to bump fuel mileage to 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive version utilizes a new Active Torque Control system, which uses an electromagnetic coupler to split engine power between the front and rear axles, replacing the center differential and saving a reported 66 pounds in weight. The RX 450h replaces last year's RX 400h, and features a unique front grille assembly and blue-tinted headlamp and taillamp covers as well as unique badging. A new 3.5L Atkinson-cycle engine replaces last year's 3.3L unit, making 245 horsepower and 234 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive versions receive a 167-horse supplemental electric motor, while all-wheel drive versions get a 67-horse electric motor driving the rear wheels. Combined fuel economy is 27 mpg for front-wheel drive versions and 28 mpg for all-wheel drive examples. The 450h utilizes a CVT transmission as well as a unique exhaust-heat recovery system, which helps shorten warm up times, allowing for less use of the gasoline engine. It can run on one or both of its power systems, providing an excellent balance in acceleration and fuel economy. Inside, standard features include 10-way front power seats, power tilt and telescopic steering column, dual-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth integration, 9-speaker stereo, reclining and sliding second-row seating and wood trim. Several option packages are available, including the Sport package, which adds sport suspension, 19-inch wheels and Lexus' Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system, which uses steering, brakes and Lexus' Stability Control to help minimize loss of traction in a turn. The Premium package offers a power liftgate, leather seating, a sunroof, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and an iPod interface. A Luxury package is also available, adding upgraded leather seating, power folding mirrors, a side monitoring system, extendable front seat cushions, and an upgraded wood and leather steering wheel. The Navigation package adds a hard-drive based navigation system controlled by a console-mounted "Remote Touch" module, rear-view camera, upgraded speakers and Bluetooth. Other available options include park assist, a head-up display, rear seat DVD entertainment and a Mark Levinson surround sound system. All RXs get no fewer than ten airbags, and Lexus also offers a Pre-Collision system, which tightens the seatbelts and readies full braking power when sensors detect an eminent collision.
